Who We Are

E-mail Print PDF
The idea is simple.

First, understand the challenges of the automotive service and collision repair industry. Recognize our responsibilities. Identify opportunities.

Next, organize an industry-wide commitment toward a common goal ... the strength and success of those charged with meeting those opportunities, the survive professional.

Provide the professional resources, financial commitment and management support to meet that goal, head on.

In today's highly competitive environment, technical skills alone are not a guarantee for success. Business owners need the management "power tools" to not simply service, but to win.

This means excelling in cost controls, maximizing productivity and reaching elusive profit margins.

Provide the leadership.

This is the Automotive Management Institute. Our industry's first accredited business education program. AMI is designed exclusively to improve automotive service and collision repair management skills and support independent owner/operator success.

Management excellence

AMI has identified the critical components of successful business management and offers practical, hands-on education programs dedicated to automotive service. These courses are designed for the automotive service business owner/manager:

The Institute also remains uncompromising in faculty selection. All instructors are professionals who understand the business world. Their courses have direct application to your particular business and profit.

Easy Course Access

The Automotive Management Institute understands that it is often difficult for owners and managers to schedule long absences from their businesses. The Institute therefore offers these convenient ways to obtain management education.

First, AMI courses are held at each of the Automotive Service Association (ASA) sponsored events: the Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS) and the International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE). AMI courses held during these national events are available to all shop owners and managers.

Second, local, state or national trade groups and organizations sponsor AMI courses. The majority of all AMI courses are conducted in live classroom settings at state and local levels.

Third, self-study and online courses are available to individuals who wish to learn at their own pace and convenience.

Each AMI course has a credit value. Currently, the Institute offers courses ranging from 1.5 hours to five days (36 hours of instruction), depending upon topic, course requirements and management field. Attendees accumulate course credits (course hours x 2) that may be applied toward the Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation with every completed segment.

Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM)

The Institute's AAM designation is our industry's first business education accreditation. The Institute manages a database that tracks each student through the program. Each time a participant completes a course and submits a course completion form, the participant receives the appropriate number of credits. Completing a minimum of 120 AMI credits earns the most diligent professionals the prestigious AAM designation. This honor testifies to the dedication, professionalism and pride of those most concerned with their personal success as well as the industry they serve. Current students and alumni can view their transcripts online.

Each year, AMI graduates who have earned the AAM designation are honored with a formal graduation ceremony where diplomas are bestowed.

Course sponsorship

Any automotive industry association, private trade group or organization may provide AMI courses at their local and national functions. In fact, many jobbers, distributors, suppliers and manufacturers are providing Institute courses for their customers.
